Thursday August 14th will be a day to live in mass transit infamy... all kidding aside, the Blackout of 2003 will live in my generation's collective memory for a long time, saying in hopes that nothing worse overshadows it. In contrast to the lootings of 26 years ago, this crisis came and went without incident. We're a sturdy lot these days.

My own commute home consisted of a 90-block walk to the ferry with one of my colleagues. After quickly assessing the situation and the size of the line/mob waiting to board, we headed to the PABT to find a bus. Instead, we hitchhiked a ride on the back of a cargo van, and I got a ride to within 6 blocks of my home. Door to door- 2 1/2 hours. My sympathies to the tens of thousands far less fortunate or lucky than I was.
